A route with a historic trail and a unique ford
From ICA Ottsjö Bua, walk east along the road until you think you must have missed the sign to the ford, Ridvadet. Walk a bit further and eventually you’ll see it. Turn right down towards Ottsjön. You are following an old post road across marshes and lingonberry bushes. In past times, people rode across the lake to get to Härjedalen. This is the only ford in Sweden to cross a lake. You can read more about this and plenty more on the signs along the route.
There are lovely picnic spots beside the lake and you can find mushrooms and berries here in late summer. The route continues west along the shoreline back to Ottsjö. Enjoy the views of the mountains across the lake. The path winds through bilberry forests and along plankways. At the moorings, turn right and walk up the hill, or follow route 261 if you want to walk further.
